We stayed here this past week. It was everything we hoped for. The staff was super helpful and friendly. The property was absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the Kickapoo cabin, and fit perfectly for my husband and I and our two kids. Very quaint and cozy, and SUPER clean. Kitchen was fully equipped. Sitting out on the porch at night you can see the stars! We loved lounging around in the river outside the cabin. And my little one enjoyed time in the pool as well!
The Outdoors lent to a wondrous area for fireside groups to chat under the huge Texas stars and large Oak trees! The land surrounding was great for the kids to run and play; the Sabinal river held mysteries for those inclined for exploration, and long walks amongst the Cypress trees. Yep, Utopia River Retreat stood up completely to its name - Utopia!
This stay in Utopia was great! Our entire extended family stayed in the Fortress for Thanksgiving - including Alaskans ready for a green holiday! the two downstairs rooms were big, one with a double sized jacuzzi tub - the other room thoughtfully architected to the back of the house for those with little ones or elderly persons who may need a bit of quiet once in awhile. We had a large screen TV for football and small children's movies. The kitchen was able to handle all of us women and food we brought to cook for the Thanksgiving dinner. The fridge was large enough for all the goodies and the leftovers. Upstairs were three loft bed groupings and those lodging up there had their own bath. Fantastic!
Unique lodge, easily accommodated our group of 9. Has a fireplace in the main room and an older big screen TV. Plenty of parking out front, and outdoor fire pits and charcoal grills. Kitchen was adequately equipped. Very quite on our particular stay. Good river access and beautiful hills.
Spent the whole weekend in the two bedrooms cabin - lookout. I would say it's a fantastic experience. The rooms, bath, kitchen are clean and spacious. The kitchen is fully equipped, save us a lot of trouble! The place is very quite, beautiful, and relaxing. Very convenient if you want to visit lost maple state natural area and garner state park (these are places we visit).
The only complaint I have is the wifi signal is a bit weak in the room, I have to go out to receive the signal. But, hey, this is a perfect situation to disconnect and enjoy a peaceful family time, right?
Only about a 20 minute scenic drive to Garner State Park and the Frio River. We will definitely be back!
